Thirty and Moisturized

Happy New Year!

With the start of 2009 came another birthday (30!) and a renewed interest in finally learning to “go girly.” I’m putting together a game plan - a checklist of things to try in the new year - and I’ll share that later this week.

First up: I finally started using moisturizer.

For years, I’d read the articles that say that moisturizing is the best way to ensure that skin stays young-looking and smooth. I’ve got oily and sensitive skin, though, so I was never able to find a cream or lotion that keeps breakouts at bay and doesn’t feel heavy.

I stopped by Sephora a few weeks ago to look for something to de-emphasize the dark circles under my eyes from my holiday fatigue. The saleswoman showed me a few products, but also pointed out the difference an eye cream can make. I left there with some Clinique All About Eyes (a product I’d tried years ago).

Next stop was Origins. Their Balanced Diet lotion was the only moisturizer I’ve ever used that didn’t make me break out. I was thrilled to find that they offer Matte Scientist, an oil controlling lotion that actually *reduces* the oiliness, while keeping skin hydrated. Sold!

I’ve been using the Clinique and Origins potions, off and on, for a couple of weeks now. I’ve noticed the dark circles under my eyes are less noticeable when I’ve used the All About Eyes consistently. The Matte Scientist makes my skin tone smooth enough that I’ve even been asked if I was wearing makeup! Problem is, I can’t maintain the habit.

So, now my questions for you: Do you have a favorite moisturizing product or tip? What tricks do you use to remind yourself to stick with your skincare routine?
